| Wow, that's confusing yet cool at the same time!! Lol, I've wanted to see what playing a bard is like, since I've mostly played cleric, but even clerics can get pretty nasty in tough situations | |

| For tanks you have a few options, Beserkers which hit hard and live past when their HP hits zero. Fighters who are so versatile they can be a tank, melee scrapper, even ranged dps. Paladins who can do minor healer and use a mount to help take the offense. in 4.0, the latest kind of D&D, there is now the Warlord class that can command the battlefield and kick ass.

| lol Oh, and if you roll a 1 with a d20, despite what modifiers you have, it usually results in an epic failure.
Like for a "Diplomacy" roll to get a crowd on your side, if you roll a 1, you basically stir them into an angry mob Against you... Or a 1 on an attack roll you drop your weapon and possible harm yourself...

| well, most spells you dont roll to hit. The target has to roll to see if he negates it or takes less damage. Even so, there are modifiers for that too.
Some spells are based specifically on your "Charisma" or your "Wisdom". If that be the case, if you have a high "Charisma" or "Wisdom" modifier, the spell will be harder to shrug off.
And on the opposite side, say the saving throw against the spell is a "Will" save. If you have modifiers going to your "Will" save, you'll have an easier time negating those pesky spells.

| ok, darkie may have to correct me on if i'm wrong. I play the older version of D&D...
There's 6 Abilities (strength dexterity constitution intelligence wisdom and charisma) and 3 Saving Throws (Fortitude Reflex and Will) Then there's the stats, and there are a massive amount and they depend on how the game is played (some skills just dont get used)
Stat points are assigned by what class you take, some get more skill points than others. Saving Throws are based on the Ability modifier for each throw, and what class modifiers you get (casters generally have a higher will because the class gives you a better modifier, and the same for a tank and fortitude and a monk or rogue with reflex) Abilities are done strictly under whatever the DM(dungeon master) feel like.

| So I can use whatever moves I want? So let's say that I use a FALCON PUNCH! and the DM lets me use it, so I can use it as long as I roll high? | |

| yes and no, you have to behave in a setting and act with knowledge you character would know. So you cant do a falcon punch >_<
But you can punch and kick as a Monk, and if you roll high you definitely can punch a hole through a person or round house kick a head clean off. That would be considered a natural 20 roll (when the dice itself lands on 20, no modifiers)

| But if I get an 18 on a roll and modify it for 3, is it considered perfect or just a powerful attack? | |

| if your modifier is only three, that generally means your low level. a 21 for a low level character is a solid powerful hit.
As you get higher up in level, some big baddies are so hard to hit or so encased in armor you'll need a 30 to hit, but you'll have a nice modifier like +17 to hit.
And all weapons have a crit range, it's where when you roll between the range you'll do double or triple (some weapons even quadruple!) the total damage.
lets say i'm using a sword that deals 2D6 + 3(the modifier) damage and it's crit range is 18-20 x3.
I roll an 18, BAM, critical! I roll a 4 and a 3, so 7. Plus the mod gives me 10. So then i multiply the 10 by 3 and deal 30 damage, that's a lot for a weapon dealing 2d6 (where a 12 is perfect)
The crit multiplier depends on the weapon, but it can always be increased in time, but thats for another time...

| Also remember that attack rolls for weapons differ, such as a warhammer you roll a d8 for damage, and superior or military classified weapons are often more powerful than simple weapons. For example, a simple melée weapon is normally a mace or the like, superior and military weapons like the rapier deal more damage. Also know that some enemies may be affected most by a certain type of attack. Ex. Ghouls are most damaged by slash type attacks, so an axe would be best, but they also have a reeking stench that will make you sick for a set amount of time unless you succeed on the Fort save.
Correct me if any of this is wrong.
